PISCATAWAY, NJ -
Sabinsa Corporation has developed a colorless standardized
turmeric root extract: Tetrahydrocurcuminoid, which will
be introduced at Natural Products Expo West, March 24-26
in Anaheim, California. This breakthrough has applications
for dietary supplements as well as cosmeceuticals.
Sabinsaís original, patented standardized
turmeric root extract, Curcumin C3 ComplexÆ, is a
patented bioprotectant and multipurpose antioxidant, yet
its topical applications are limited due to its staining
effect. It can also present difficulties in a manufacturing
environment because of its intense color.
The new colorless extract, also patent pending,
was developed by a proprietary extraction process involving
the parent curcuminoids that results the formation of tetrahydrocurcuminoids
(THC). Equally important to the off-white color material
is the fact that all of the biological properties are preserved
to yield a minimum 95% curcuminoids content.
There is some evidence that the white tetrahydrocurcuminoids
may be 4 to 5 times more potent than yellow curcuminoids,
meaning a lower dosage is required. Research is ongoing
to explore and validate this theory.
