An
efficient antioxidant, Alpha-Lipoic Acid at high
dose levels has been shown to increase glucose
uptake, indicating potential utility in the management
of blood glucose levels. In diabetics, proteins
tend to bind with glucose, precipitating oxidative
damage. Alpha-Lipoic Acid supplementation reduces
glycation of proteins, thereby offering protection.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid also protects against cholesterol
oxidation and the consequent atherosclerosis in
diabetics as well as in others at risk of cardiovascular
diseases1.
