THOMAS ALVA EDISON PATENT AWARD FOR SABINSA CORPORATION

Sabinsa Corporation is winner of the Thomas Alva Edison Patent award for the year 2004 in the Consumer/Small Company category. The entry submitted was Sabinsa's patent on ForsLean^®, US Patent # 5,804,596 titled "Method of Preparing a Forskolin Composition from Forskolin Extract and Use of Forskolin for Promoting Lean Body Mass and Treating Mood Disorders".

The annual Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards instituted by The Research & Development Council of New Jersey honors the inventors of the most revolutionary product innovations and important scientific breakthroughs originating in New Jersey . Awards are given in various industrial categories.

The 2003 categories of Consumer, Enabling Technology, Industrial, Information Technology and Medical Technology Transfer featured multinational giants such as AT&T, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Exxon-Mobil Research & Engineering, as winners. Earlier, Sabinsa Corporation was a finalist for the award in the Health & Medicine category in the year 1999 for the patent on Bioperine®.

This is the second award for ForsLean^® in the innovation arena . The product earlier won the Best New Product award in 2001 at Nutracon.

ProtoTrib ^® ( Tribulus terrestris Extract) is standardized to contain 20% protodioscin, with applications in sports nutritional products.

Salaretin ^® ( Salacia reticulate Extract ) standardized to contain 1%Mangiferin and 20% triterpenoid saponins supports the maintenance of healthy blood sugar levels and supports weight management .

Ursolic Acid derived from rosemary leaves offers anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant protection, and supports tissue integrity .

Xanthoparmelia scabrosa Extract supports healthy immune functions and reproductive health.

Sami Labs Ltd, Sabinsa's manufacturing and research arm in India , is pleased to announce that it will now represent InVitro International, California in the Indian subcontinent. This development provides in house capability to perform Alternatives to Animal testing.

InVitro International headquartered in Irvine , CA is a provider of non-animal testing methods and develops & commercializes test kits and laboratory services. Sami Labs will use testing technologies, which are designed to produce data for corrosivity, or ocular/dermal irritation, which correlate with animal and human test results.

The Irritection Assay System is a standardized, quantitative invitro test method that can be employed to detect, rank, and predict the ocular and/or dermal irritation potential of cosmetics, consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and chemical raw materials.

Corrositex is an in vitro test that determines chemical corrosivity and permits assignment of Packing Group classification for Class 8 corrosives. This test replaces the rabbit test of dermal corrosivity by providing a reliable means of mimicking this test.

These test methodologies save both time and money. For example Irritection data may be obtained in as little as 5 hours, versus the standard 2-3 weeks required for in vivo studies.
