Director General,Council for Scientific & Industrial
Research, Government of India and Mr. D.B. Inamdar,
Honorable Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology
and Tourism, Government of Karnataka.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, developed
this technology under the Government of India’s
‘Technology Mission’. This is the first
commercialization of the technology, which works at
atmospheric pressures to more than 300 bars for selective
extraction of active compounds from natural products
for Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical applications

In his opening remarks, Sabinsa founder Dr. Muhammed
Majeed welcomed the dignitaries and described the role
played by the company in herbal extraction and exports
to US,Japan and European countries.

Dr. Mashelkar stated that efforts of this kind made
by Sami Labs Ltd. should be applauded. In his remarks,
he cited Dr. Muhammed Majeed as a "Technopreneur",
a blend of scientist and successful entrepreneur.
Mr. Inamdar, expressed appreciation for the company’s
collaborative efforts with local farmers in the cultivation
of medicinal plants, which provided opportunities for
economic growth to these farmers.
Dr. S. Baser, Prof. IIT Bombay in his presentation,
emphasized the importance and advantages of SCFE process
and the basic research carried out at IIT Bombay in
collaboration with Sami Labs to develop and commercialize

Sabinsa
teams up with Princeton University
Sabinsa has become a member of the Industrial Associates
Program (IAP) administered by Princeton University,
Princeton, NJ. IAP members have access to Princeton’s
instrument facility and can conduct collaborative research
projects. The facilities include, among other items,
X-ray, high-field and mid-field NMR, picosecond laser
systems, molecular graphics, HRMS, ESMS, Bruker ESR
spectrometers and an ENDOR spectrometer. In addition
Sabinsa Scientists can attend specialized courses conducted
specifically for IAP members to expand their horizon

Product
focus: Mineral nutrients from Sabinsa |
|
| |
| |
|
Mineral nutrients
are valued for their multifaceted roles as cofactors
in biochemical processes in the body and as
integral constituents of the tissues in the
body. Termed "micronutrients", minerals
such as calcium, magnesium and potassium are
required at daily levels ranging from a few
hundred milligrams to a few thousand milligrams,
while minerals such as iron, copper, zinc, manganese,
cobalt, iodine and selenium are required in
trace amounts ranging from microgram levels
to a few milligrams, to ensure health and well
being. Sabinsa’s range of mineral nutrients
(listed on the back page of this letter) are
carefully prepared to ensure optimal bioavailability.
Magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc are supplied
in better absorbed organic forms as ascorbates,
aspartates, citrates, malates or methionates.
|
Ligands such
as ascorbic acid, aspartic acid, citric acid, malic
acid, and the amino acid, methionine facilitate
the entry of the attached mineral into the cells
in the body. The ligands themselves have significant
biological functions in the body. For example, Aspartic
acid is a metabolic intermediate in several biochemical
pathways in the body, including the tricarboxylic
acid and urea cycles. Aspartic acid salts (aspartates)
are believed to be mineral transporters to the metabolizing
cells, aiding in the metabolic process by replenishing
vital electrolytes thereby contributing to efficient
energy production. In addition, the aspartate moiety
is reported to reduce oxygen consumption by the
cells during the energy cycle. |
| Selenium
is supplied in the form of the "molecularly
integrated’ Selenomethionine (SelenimSelect®)
in the appropriate, bioavailable, dextrorotatory
(L(+)) chiral form. Sabinsa Corporation helped develop
the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) monograph for
this product and also provided the reference standard. |
