Sabinsa wins patent infringement lawsuit
|
|
| |
| |
A final
judgment has been entered in the patent infringement lawsuit
filed against Indfrag, Ltd. of India by Sabinsa Corporation.
The action was commenced in the United States District
Court in New Jersey by Sabinsa, which sought relief
for patent infringement by Indfrag under Sabinsa’s
US Patent # 5,804,596 entitled "Method of Preparing
a Forskolin Composition from Forskohlin Extract and
Use of Forskohlin for Promoting Lean Body Mass and Treating
Mood Disorders".
The final judgment filed with the Court finds that
"…the ...Patent is valid and was properly
issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office
under the Patent Laws of the United States", and
that "Indfrag and its agents … are enjoined
from importing into the United States, marketing, advertising
for sale or selling in the United States any Coleus
forskohlii extract whose forskohlin content is above
3%...."
Mark Sysler, Sabinsa’s Senior Executive Vice
President, commented, "We are encouraged by the
results our efforts are having regarding protection
of our ForsLean® patent
for our licensed customers. This judgment is significant
in that it establishes a precedent to keep manufacturers
from making the material and selling it in the United
States in violation of patent law. As always, we encourage
our industry to respect the intellectual property rights
of others."

a large-scale prostate cancer study funded through the
National Institute of Health's (NIH) National Cancer
Institute (NCI). It is the only selenium source being
administered in the study. A second study recently was
undertaken to evaluate selenomethionine's potential
role in Alzheimer's patients.
The USP monograph for Selenomethionine is based on
Sabinsa's Selenium SeLECT® brand L-(+)-Selenomethionine.

Natural
Cosmeceuticals from Sabinsa Corporation |
|
| |
| |
|
A cosmeceutical is an ingredient with medicinal properties, which manifests
beneficial topical actions or provides protection
against degenerative skin conditions. Exposure
to ultraviolet light, chemicals and other factors
that induce the formation of free radicals causes
the skin to age rapidly. Apparent deteriorative
oxidative changes triggered by free radicals include
wrinkling, hyperpigmentation (excessive tanning)
and inflammation (sun burn).
|
|
 |
Aging of the skin is a
cumulative effect influenced by factors such as
environmental pollution, chemicals, and atmospheric
temperature fluctuations Ultraviolet A and B radiation
from sunlight penetrate the skin and accelerate
damage due to free radicals. With prolonged exposure
to sunlight, collagen and elastin fibers that maintain
the elasticity and integrity of the skin are broken
down by inherent enzymes, and skin texture deteriorates. |
Natural cosmeceutical ingredients on our list include
antioxidants, antimicrobial agents, skin lightening agents
and other herbal extracts that support the texture and
integrity of the skin and hair. The herbs from which these
extracts are prepared, have a long history of traditional
"cosmeceutical" use, although the term itself
is of recent origin. These applications are now adequately
supported with scientific literature and safety data.
The expanding list of natural cosmeceuticals is presented
on the back page of this newsletter.
