Two
manuals to be published
|
|
| |
| |
 |
NutriScience
Publishers, Inc. will soon release two new technical
reference manuals on Capsaicin and Lactospore®.
These new manuals will provide comprehensive insight
into the research and science behind these two
remarkable ingredients.
Studies have shown Capsaicin to be effective as
a topical pain reliever in numerous applications
including arthritis pain, cluster headaches and
post-mastectomy pain syndrome.
Lactospore is a spore-bearing
microorganism that produces lactic acid. This
microorganism, protected by nature's own microencapsulation
system, germinates into viable cells in the intestine,
which can then proliferate.
The probiotic of choice, Lactospore requires
no refrigeration, is shelf-stable and resistant
to heat (up to 600 C),
bile and stomach acid.

Selenium fights cancer says new research study |
|
| |
| |
The
recent Nutritional Prevention of Cancer Study published
by Clark et al. in JAMA (Vol. 276 (24), 1996) indicated
convincingly that selenium supplementation is beneficial
in reducing the incidences of different cancers.
The study randomized 1312 patients
(with a previous history of basal or squamous cell
carcinomas of the skin) to receive a placebo or
200 µg selenium per day. Patients were treated
for an average of 4.5 years, with a follow-up of
5.4 years.
The primary end points for the trial
were the incidences of basal or squamous cell carcinomas
of the skin. Secondary end points included the incidences
of lung, prostate and colorectal cancer, total cancer
incidence and all-cause and total cancer mortality.
Selenium supplementation did not significantly
affect the incidence of skin cancers. However, compared
with the controls, patients treated with selenium
had significantly reduced incidences of lung, prostate
and colorectal cancer.

New Products : Glucosamine Sulfate |
|
| |
| |
A recent
addition to Sabinsa's product list is the sodium-free
form of the nutritional supplement Glucosamine Sulfate.
Glucosamine Sulfate occurs naturally
in the human body and is a building block of glycosaminoglycans
(the complex sugars found in connective tissue, mucous
secretions and synovial fluid).
Glucosamine Sulfate is used in the treatment
of osteoarthritis and plays a role in cartilage protection.
Glucosamine sulfate is at least as effective as non-steroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) in relieving osteoarthritis
symptoms (Reichelt et al., Arzneimittel-Forschung, Vol.
44, 1994).
The replacement of sodium in Glucosamine
Sulfate with a potassium salt is beneficial because
clinical evidence correlates a high sodium intake with
hpertension and edema.

Sabinsa-on-wheels
tours Califonia |
|
| |
| |
On
the road again, Sabinsa hosted three separate
educational seminars in the state of California:
Irvine (Orange County) on February 3, Los Angeles
on February 4,and in the San Francisco Bay area
on February 5, 1997. The next stop this coming
April is Colorado and Arizona.
Sabinsa on
Wheels was created as a vehicle (no pun intended)
for the dissemination of educational and technical
information, and to provide attendees with the
opportunity of speaking directly with the scientists
behind the science.
|
 |
Response
to the seminars held thus far has been very
favorable. In addition to live presentations,
attendees are provided with a comprehensive
Sabinsa Product Manual, complete with product
data sheets, Certificates of Analysis, product
overviews, printed articles, research papers
and various other R&D materials.
If you have not yet attended one of these seminars,
and would like to, please contact Scott Hansen
at Sabinsa for more information.
