Lesser known Ayurvedic Gems |
|
| |

Picrorhiza
kurroa - a perennial woody herb widely used in Ayurvedic
medicine to treat a variety of diseases, especially
liver disorders and respiratory problems. Picroliv®
is the standardized extract from P. kurroa and studies
have shown that it is capable of protecting the liver
against chemicals and micro-organisms. The hepatoprotective
effects of Picroliv®
were found to be more potent than Silymarin (obtained
from the seeds of milk thistle, Silybum marianum)
in maintaining healthy liver functions.

New Products : Chrysin
|
|
| |
| |
The
latest addition to Sabinsa Corporation's comprehensive
list of quality products is Chrysin (5, 7-dihydroxyflavone).
This compound belongs to a biologically active class
known as bioflavonoids. Chrysin has been isolated from
Passiflora plants, such as P. coerulea (used as a sedative
in folklore medicine) and P. incarnate (maracuja "passion
flower" which is well known in traditional medicine
for its diverse biological effects).
The effects of Chrysin
include anti-inflammatory action, antiviral (including
anti-HIV) action, vasodilatory effects and anxiety-reducing
action. Chrysin has also been shown to have a potential
role in drug metabolism and the chemoprevention of carcinogenesis.
Laboratory studies, on
in vitro and animal models, revealed that Chrysin inhibited
the secretion of lysosomal enzymes and arachidonic acid,
as well as the degranulation of mast cells, thereby
reducing inflammation. |

Effective
& Safe Digestive Aid : DigeZyme® |
|
| |
| |
DigeZyme®
is a multi-enzyme complex consisting of starch digesting
enzymes called amylases, protein digesting enzymes called
proteases and fat digesting enzymes called lipases.
The composition also contains lactase, an enzyme useful
for people suffering from lactose intolerance. The preparation
is therefore a multi-functional digestive aid.
Unlike the commonly available
enzyme products of animal origin, DigeZyme®
is derived from the microbial fermentation of grain.
This preparation is therefore free from the potential
hazards of latent viruses, for example bovine spongiform
encephalitis (BSE). |
